Happy World Penguin Day! When being chased by Leopard Seals, Emperor Penguins reach such high velocities underwater and consequently great heights when exiting the frigid Ross Sea that it looks like they are genuinely trying to fly. However, they are just throwing their flippers out for balance. They hit the sea ice with such force that often, these 60 to 90-pound birds knock the air out of themselves. They quickly shake it off and begin their 10-mile hike back to the colony to feed their awaiting chicks.

With the sun barely peeking over the horizon in the Northern fjords of Norway, a Humpback Whale throws its tail high in the air during a feeding frenzy on herring. On this same night, we saw hundreds of orcas, dozens of humpbacks, and many fin whales. With @CristinaMittermeier and @Sea_Legacy.

Myself, SeaLegacy, and our coalition partners are incredibly grateful for the tremendous support we have seen with the campaign. The 112 thousand signatures we have collected thus far will serve as an invaluable tool to drive change in this destructive fishery. Although we have more than doubled our goal of 50 thousand signatures, this campaign is far from over. We must continue fighting for our oceans every day. There is still time to add your signature to this cause. Please follow the link in my bio, add your voice. Let's end this fishery once and for all. This baby emperor penguin chick soaks in some sun on a crisp evening on the Ross Sea in Antarctica. It is not often that a subject like this reaches in and tugs on your heart. As one of the largest icebergs in recorded history, about the size of Delaware, just calved off of the Larsen Ice Shelf, you can’t help but wonder about the future of all penguin species in this rapidly changing ecosystem.

I am honoured, humbled and a bit sheepish by this acknowledgment. @zombieyeti is a super talented artist and I am proud of the mission. The most important thing I want people to understand is that climate change is real and that denying it doesn’t stop it. I’m proud to be a featured character in @AmplifierArt’s for my work with @sea_legacy. is a new comic art series that tells the story of modern climate leaders building unprecedented cooperation, driving action, and creating space for those most impacted to share their knowledge and perspectives. When seeing this artwork, I hope people realize that working to reverse climate change isn’t reserved for filmmakers, photographers, storytellers, scientists or activists. You can download this free high-resolution artwork by @zombieyeti at Amplifier.org along with stories from myself and other climate leaders with ways for you and your community to get involved.

Happy Earth Day!!! Today we celebrate this great Earth and we must all stand up and become protectors of this home of ours. It is the only one we have. I love @ElonMusk and what he stands for but I would rather live here than Mars. Four billion years of evolutionary perfection and we find ourselves at a scary crossroads. What we do or fail to do in the next few years will determine how this Earth looks for the next thousand years. Let’s make everyday Earth Day!

This is @EmilyGraceanna of the Stellat'en First Nation, who was arrested on March 24th for standing up against the pipeline developments in Burnaby, British Columbia. Over 170 people have been arrested so far for disobeying an injunction that protects Kinder Morgan and disregards Indigenous sovereignty. The @Sea_Legacy team and I spent the weekend documenting the peaceful protests and were invited to photograph members of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation. Our mission is to help shed light on the potential devastation that this pipeline will have on the and how @justinpjtrudeau and the Canadian government have disregarded the first nation communities who have inhabited this land for tens of thousands of years. Please stand with the and @Sea_Legacy as we continue to take on Kinder Morgan which is our to the north.

The wandering spirit! A female Kermode Bear walks along the edges of a creek in search of salmon. Soon, this gorgeous animal will settle in for a long winters sleep and the more fat she carries into the den with her the better. Bears have something called delayed implantation. One type of delayed implantation is obligate diapause, which is a mechanism to allow mammals for timing the birth of their youngsters with favorable environmental conditions. The embryo does not immediately implant in the uterus, but it is maintained in a state of dormancy. No development takes place during this period and as a result, the normal gestation period is extended, sometimes by as much a one year. I am glad my biology degree came in handy for something. Polar bears love a good lookout. Their smell is their most powerful sense, but they also love an elevated position from which to search for seals drifting by on ice. I have photographed hundreds of bears, but when the beauty of ice and the elegance a polar bear come together in one image, I stare in awe and hit the shutter while giving thanks. What lies beneath California’s thin blue line? Blue sharks are one of the most graceful and beautiful animals I have had the pleasure to engage with underwater. Even though they may be a top predator in their domain, they are no match for California’s swordfish driftnet fishery. These mile-long, 100-foot deep nets entangle and kill countless sharks annually. Is it worth having swordfish on our menus and risking the survival of Californian coastal species with @Sea_Legacy
